Does your school have a lockdown procedure in place? Is it practiced (drilled) by staff and students?

Last year we replaced all the locks in the school. All doors are locked except for the main doors. We also put in a PA system that would enable Code Red or Code Green to sound. Code Green means exit building. Code Red--lockdown. The wooden doors were replaced with steel doors that lock from the inside. All rooms have telephones in the rooms. The sheriff has a floor plan of each building showing rooms and exits. I guess it is a start. We have not practiced how to protect ourselves from an armed intruder into the classroom.

Our school had a lockdown drill; the students had a very hard time not laughing and talking. I think they would take it seriously if it was real, though.
