Hi Beth,
This is one of those management things that can really make a teacher crazy! I used to have a shared computer - three classrooms shared one computer and we all had to sign up for time on it! Very challenging organization-wise. I used a chart method to keep track of who had a chance to use it, and I was oh so happy when we finally got to the point where we shared two computers - LOL!!
But as we were heading toward the 21st century we finally got a state-of-the-art computer lab. We still only got a weekly time-slot since we were now "sharing" school-wide, but it was great to have everyone able to be on the computer at once.

Irene,
I feel very strongly that instead of the labs we see in so many schools (mine has three!!), with a "computer teacher" for each, that every classroom should have 1 computer for every 5 students, which a tech-savvy teacher! Thanks for sharing your experiences with this topic!
