Power point presentations are wonderful tools for students to showcase their work, especially science, history and social studies projects.

Power point presentations are a wonderful tool for students to showcase their work, especially science, history and social studies projects. Power point presentation software is kid friendly, however students must use good organizational skills for the presentation's success.

As well, students must have simple computer skills such as how to use a mouse and be able to follow simple directions from the teacher. Teacher may do a power point presentation on a how to create a power point presentation to model the different tools available and as future learning resource for students.

A talk out loud strategy to create the power point presentation is a good strategy as it requires student input during the process. He may have a rough power point presentation but it is best to do the majority with the class to keep them engaged in the activity.

Power Presentation Teaching Tutorial

  1. Teacher identifies the subject of the power point presentation. Subject is to create a power point presentation.
  2. Teacher identifies the audience for her power point. Teacher will ask students to identify the audience. Will the presentation be the same or different if it is being created for university students or junior students?
  3. Teacher and students must research on how to create a simple power point presentation. Teacher may hand out basic information on the how to's and students and the teacher will summarize to create a power point presentation. Another option is for the teacher to identify the different options available in a power point template and how to use them.
  4. After the teacher and students have identified key points on how to create a power point presentation, they must decide on how to organize the information. Teacher may suggest incorrect ways to have students decide on a more acceptable way to present the information. For example, the option to add photos should not be in the first few slides, rather how to open a new power point template and to add files and text.
  5. Teacher may have a small lesson on the amount of text per slide and font type. Less is more for presentations.

Power Point Presentation Tutorial is offered by Microsoft to train individuals on how to create a presentation from their software. Their tutorial is user friendly and allows the viewer to read the information or to watch a video to learn the software.

Quick Reference Card is an easy to use reference card for the teacher or student.

Power point presentations are just one option for students to showcase their work. Many students enjoy utilizing the computer and a computer generated project is one way to keep students engaged in their school work.
